Marilyn Barrett is a tax and business attorney and partner in a major Los Angeles law firm. A 1977 graduate of the UCLA School of Law, she chaired the California State Bar’s Taxation Section from 1996 to 1997. She also received the 2000 Achievement In Law Award from the Century City Chamber of Commerce. She is a frequent contributor to law journals. This is her first book for a general audience.

"I wrote Just Sign Here, Honey to alert women to the devastation that can befall them if they do not take responsibility for taking care of their legal matters. Both they and their children can be put in financial peril if they don't do so. Just Sign Here, Honey is based on my more than 20 years of legal experience during which I have represented a number of women who suffered devastating financial distress and months or years of anguish, depression and fear—several to the brink of suicide—because they were not vigilant about protecting their legal matters.

“Too often, women trust their spouses, other family members and business partners to treat them fairly, only to find out too late that their trust was misplaced. In other cases, women may not take the time to protect themselves legally because they are too busy with other things, they are intimidated by legal matters, or they don't think it is particularly important to them. In my book, I use a number of stories about women who did not protect themselves legally and women who did to illustrate the type of problems that can be encountered and to encourage women to take care of themselves and to take steps to minimize their legal risk. By protecting themselves legally, not only will women reduce the risk of financial disaster, but they will empower themselves as well.”
